Gateshead International Business Centre

The building is the Gateshead International Business Centre
(GIBC). It is situated within Gateshead but easily accessible
from the A1 motorway or Newcastle, particularly to those
crossing the Tyne Bridge.
Part of the brief was to act as a catalyst to bring the surrounding
area of Gateshead up to the standard of the newly regenerated
quayside. It also required good quality accommodation, with
modern facilities, from which smaller sized businesses can
operate on a twenty-four hour basis. The building comprises 51
offices, three conference rooms, various informal meeting areas,
and associated ancillary accommodation.
The building provides a modern, flexible facility specifically for
businesses that use high technology and high levels of
connectivity. The aim is to encourage businesses to collaborate
and learn from each other. The offices are adaptable from both
a service and a planning point a view. This is achieved by the
provision of ‘Plug-in’ facilities throughout the building and
demountable partitions within the offices. The building is also
energy efficient and utilises photovoltaic solar cells for use
throughout the computer and air cooling system.
