Beaumont CPS: Suffolk

This project provides accommodation for 140 pupils aged 5-11 years, and includes a nursery unit for 25 pupils. It has been designed for sustainability and includes many environmental and energy saving features. The Energy Practice Ltd were consulted at an early stage to bring a wider knowledge of energy conscious design to the project.

Chaucer School: Sheffield

Chaucer Secondary is a mixed comprehensive school located within an area of acute social deprivation in Sheffield. Since the 1970s it had been operating from two groups of buildings situated at opposite ends of the school playing fields.

In 1999 Sheffield Design and Property were asked to prepare a scheme to consolidate all the facilities on the primary, Wordsworth Avenue site, within a secure, defined boundary.

Huddersfield Reclaim Center

The materials recycling and waste-to-energy plant in Huddersfield has helped Kirklees Metropolitan Council become the first local authority to achieve a three star award in the governments review of excellence in waste management.

It has two main functions - recovering and recycling 25,000 tonnes per year of paper, plastics and metals - and incinerating 130,000 tonnes per year of household and trade waste that would otherwise have gone to landfill, generating enough electricity to power 10,000 homes.

Islington Arts & Media School

Building Solutions for Islington were commissioned in March 2000, to develop the Islington Arts and Media Schools existing campus to accommodate the demands of the schools new specialist performing arts and media curriculum and the anticipated growth in student numbers.

The project included a new technology block, sports hall, and dance and drama wing in addition to re-modelling the existing accommodation to ensure full disabled access throughout the school.

Jubilee Primary School: Lambeth

This new ?4.5 million, 420 place community primary school, nursery and Surestart facility is in the middle of Tulse Hill council Estate, Brixton and amalgamated three existing schools.

It incorporates a Special Educational Needs facility for hearing impaired pupils and will become a centre of excellence for the teaching of the hearing impaired.

Kings Avenue School: Lambeth

Kings Avenue School is one of four new landmark primary schools commissioned as part of Lambeths Action for Education primary school development strategy.

The scheme involved the modification and extension of two existing schools to form a three-form entry primary school, with reception and nursery classes on one site and primary years 1-6 on the other. In addition to providing a carefully planned environment for the children, the school will stay open after hours to provide learning facilities for the local community.

Wolverhampton CLC

Wolverhampton City Learning Centre aims to meet the Governments aspirations of enhancing the opportunities of pupils by providing better access to the latest educational technology in a welcoming and stimulating environment. Wednesfield High School was chosen as the host school as it offered the most potential in terms of available space, adaptability and location.

A disused swimming pool, which could not be easily demolished as it formed an integral part of a larger building, provided the opportunity for conversion and extension to provide the necessary facilities as a self contained element within the school campus.
